The QGGA programmes are designed to equip students to meet the growing requirement by industry and academia for individuals with expertise in quantitative genetics and analysis of genomics data.
Semester 1 Evolutionary, population and quantitative genetics. Statistical methodology.
Semester 2 Quantitative trait analysis and genomics. Specialist option. Research Project Proposal.
Dissertation MSc research project and dissertation.
During the programme, students will acquire a range of valuable intellectual, practical and transferable skills. A variety of teaching methods are used including lectures, tutorials, computer-based practicals and discussions of recent scientific papers. There is also a substantial research component, consisting of a written project proposal in Semester 2 leading on to a full-time 3-month research project carried out over the summer.
Students are expected to attend relevant graduate-level seminars and journal clubs. In addition, students can build on their general IT and computing skills by accessing the excellent facilities provided by the University of Edinburgh Information Services.
